Sharing great food on the World Wide Web!

What would we do without the internet?  I don't often stop to think that, but I realize that the majority of information I take in, is from the web.  And I am inspired to write this blog today because of a conversation between two of my high school friends, Jake and Cathy.  They were discussing food and sharing recipes.  I love to share recipes!  I am so excited that a dialogue like this would open up.  This is the heart of what Tracy and I are doing with "The Sloppy Chefs".  We just have a heart to share delicous food with those we love!

This week we are filming our "American Diner" episode.  We are going to teach you to make Salmon burgers with Dill Mayo and Pepper-encrusted, pepperjack stuffed beef burgers.

Also we're going to show you the eaisest, yet best tasting Cole Slaw you ever had! It's even been compared to KFC's.....enough said.

Then we will follow it up with the best Apple Pie ever!  I am telling you, easy, delicious and it will make you look like a baker extraordinaire!!!

Countdown...10...9...8...7....

The Sloppy Chefs are really taking off!  We have successfully filmed our first episode and we are so thrilled at how it went! When we watched the tape, we were really impressed with ourselves! (I know, but we really were!) ;)

You know, cooks being real in a kitchen doesn't seem like such a novel idea.  Or, it shouldn't be at least.  But we think that you will find that it is a breath of fresh air, and it really is different from the typical cooking shows we have to choose from these days.

This is editing week and you can expect to watch "Italian Bistro Night" next week! Our first episode and the beginning of something great! So get ready to tune in for Lasagna (the BEST Lasagna ever!), Caprese Salad, and the yummiest Italian Cheesy Bread your family will ever see or taste! Get ready to Slop it Up with THE SLOPPY CHEFS!

Who doesn't like Italian?

Who does not like Italian food?!? I don't know anyone!

My co-host Tracy makes the best Lasagna I have ever tasted!  That's right, I capitalized it.  It's that good!  She is from a large Italian family and has the tasty tips ( you know..the ones from Grandma Cavelli)  that come from a lifestyle of excellent cuisine.  We are so excited to present on our first show her fabulous lasagna as well as some wonderful side dishes to go with it!  We are entitling the show "Italian Bistro Night".  After you watch, you will be so excited to make this for your family!  In fact, they will think you are a 'ROCK STAR' after you cook this for them.

The other thing about Italian food that is great, other than the taste, is that it is very inexpensive to create.  You can make a large quantity, so that you can keep some for later in the week.

Our first show is taping this coming week and we are so excited to share it with you.  We did a little photo shoot on set this week.  It was such a great time, and one thing I can tell you for sure is that we are having a riot together.  I am pretty sure we are going to generate a lot of outtakes.  I laughed so hard I almost cried all my makeup off.  Here's a pic of one hilarious moment!

So keep following our blog and soon you will see our first show! I pray that we can get through it without crying in fits of laughter...or maybe I don't.  Laughter is excellent medicine and the food made with joy just tastes better...don"t you think?

Do we have to have that again tonight Mom!?!

Are you sick of cooking the same old thing every week for your family?  More to the point, is your family sick of the same old dinners week in and week out.  I freely admit I have been part of this camp.  Every once in a while I would go on a "I can't take it anymore!" recipe bender where I surfed the net, polled my friends and start asking strangers in the store what they make with the items in their cart.  This had been my pattern for a number of years. However, in the last year or so, I  began watching cooking shows ALL the time.  I have learned so much from them.  My chicken is moister, my soup more well rounded, my family happier.  I am always getting a new dinner idea! It's great!

Can I just be real and tell you my cooking show pet peeve?  Ok, thanks.  Here it is.  Everything is so darn perfect!  Little ingredients all in their little glass dishes, perfectly spotless kitchens, perfectly coiffed hosts with perfect teeth. I won't mention any names. (Giada!) Now, I repeat, i have learned A LOT! But I have truly yearned for a real experience with a real cook, who makes a mess like me.  And maybe halfway into their recipe, they realize they have to run to the neighbors for an ingredient or all will be for naught!  Now that would look a little more like me.  It would warm my heart if their kids were screaming and the phone was ringing and the ingredients were what was on sale at Fry's that week. Well, I have looked and looked, but have found no such show.

That is from where "The Sloppy Chefs" were born.  Cooking is fun, yes.  It's something some people love.  But even more importantly, it's necessary.  We must cook.   Now, we probably won't let my kids run screaming through the set, but we are as real as it gets. We are just two ladies who really enjoy  cooking, who want to use cooking as an expression of love for our family and friends, and we don't want to have to break the bank doing it.  So instead of surfing the net into the wee hours, looking for inspiration, let us do the work. Watch the show and get all sorts of new dishes and twists on the classics for your repertoire.

We are well into pre-production and begin taping next week!  We are so excited to be launching this new venture and we hope you join us for what will be a truly a special time in the "Sloppy Chef" kitchen.
Your friends and hosts,
Kristen and Tracy

Why We Titled It: "The Sloppy Chefs"

The Sloppy Chefs

So what's with the name? Some of you may be thinking: "why on Earth, would they call themselves 'the sloppy chefs'? Good question!

Here's why.

Have you ever heard the phrase "slop it on the plate"? What about, "it may not look that pretty ... but it's good!" or how about this one; "it doesn't have to be perfect, just make it taste good!"

We aren't here to be nice and tidy, as we cook! We're here to make some good food and then enjoy eating it!  The truth of the matter is that not everyone is a perfectionist, some of us are just normal ... and that's OKAY!

As a matter of fact, we believe the world is full of sloppy chefs. It's your kitchen, you can be as messy as you'd like. :) Just make sure the food tastes fabulous! That's where we come into play! We're here to help you make delicious meals that won't break your budget!

Make sure you check our blog often! We will be posting simple ideas, great menus and practical ways to make your buck go a little further for your family.

The Sloppy Chefs will be starting a brand new cooking show and as soon as we have the exact dates for the show, we will be posting it right here on our blog!

Thanks so much and remember, you don't have to be perfect in the kitchen, make your mess, slop it up and most of all enjoy your food!

Chow for now!
Kristen & Tracy  :)
